Competitive Salary: Band 7 - $114,501.15 p.a + 12% superannuation
Location: Corporate Centre in Sandringham, with the flexibility to work from home

About the Role:

The purpose of the Team Leader Recreation position is to provide strong, effective leadership, strategic direction, and innovative thinking to the Recreation Services team, while contributing more broadly to the success of the Open Space and Recreation department.

The role is focused on delivering high-quality sporting and recreation facilities and services by fostering productive relationships and providing ongoing support to leaseholders, licence holders, seasonally allocated tenants, open space and filming permit applicants and contract partners.

Through proactive guidance, collaboration, and continuous improvement, the position ensures that facilities and services meet community needs, are sustainably managed, and align with organisational priorities.

You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Coordinator with leading a dynamic team to administer the use of public open space including passive and active recreation spaces
  • Develop and foster positive relationships with sports clubs and community groups
  • Supporting sports clubs and user groups to build capability and achieve sustainable growth by providing guidance, resources, and opportunities that strengthen participation, governance, and long-term financial viability
  • Assisting to develop and review the strategic framework relating to recreation
  • Overseeing the open space and facility booking processes for Council facilities, including the granting of filming permits

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

  • Tertiary qualification in recreation/leisure/sport or similar field
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing high-performing teams, and aligning service delivery with broader organisational vision, values, strategic plans, and policies
  • Excellent skills and demonstrated experience in oral and written communication
  • Excellent contemporary knowledge of leisure and recreation services and facility administration and management
  • Demonstrated highly developed day-to-day decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Identify risk management issues and take appropriate steps to mitigate risk to Council and the Bayside community
  • Demonstrated experience building and developing the capacity of sporting clubs and community groups

Mandatory pre-employment requirements:

  • Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check
  • Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check
